Description
The Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC)
programme is a foundational auxiliary nursing programme designed to strengthen
Ghana’s healthcare workforce by preparing trainees with essential competencies
in basic curative and supportive care. The NAC programme focuses on developing
the core skills required to assist registered nurses and contribute effectively
to patient care and clinical operations.
NAC graduates are trained to provide direct
support in patient care activities such as maintaining hygiene, monitoring
vital signs, assisting with mobility, performing simple wound care, and helping
with basic treatments under supervision. Their training also emphasises
effective communication, patient comfort, infection prevention, and accurate
documentation skills that are vital to ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient
healthcare delivery.
Furthermore, the NAC programme equips
trainees to contribute meaningfully to health promotion and patient education
at the primary level, reinforcing preventive care and early intervention. As
integral members of multidisciplinary teams, NACs enhance service delivery
across hospitals, clinics, and community settings by improving patient flow,
supporting clinical procedures, and promoting compassionate care. This
foundational training not only strengthens the frontline health workforce but
also provides a pathway for career progression into higher nursing
qualifications such as the Registered General Nursing programme.
